The Sharjah Press Club of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau presented an interesting educational model for children on studying and analysing historical facts, in a workshop conducted by Mohammed Abu Obaid, on the book "Narrative of the Self", by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah,with children and young people from the Sharjah Children Centres and the "Ithmaar" media training program.
The reading workshop came at the end of the activities of the 12th Sharjah Ramadan Majlis, with the participation of 35 children and young graduates of “Ithmaar” media training program organised by the Sharjah Press Club, aimed atgrooming media talents in children between the ages of 10 and 17.
Muhammad Abu Obaid interacted with the participants in a fun and engaging manner that enhances their understanding of history and analytical ability of events and facts.
The workshop presented methods and mechanisms of solving problems and developing one’s personality and skills by listing a variety of situations that the Sharjah Ruler experienced during his childhood. The experience included both days of joy and sadness, which contributed to the formation of his unique personality.
The workshop is part of the efforts to instill the value of reading and knowledge in the young generation, and to support the preservation of the Arabic language and the rich civilizational and cultural heritage that stands behind it. The childrendiscussed through narration and reading the book about the various events recorded by the Sharjah Ruler, and the lessons they have drawn from his life and his relentless efforts to pursue knowledge.
Asma Al Juwaid, Manager of the Sharjah Press Club, said, “The Narrative of the Self” focuses in an intense way on the life story of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and records in the minutest detail the personalities, events and historical facts that he experienced in a most engaging manner, which prompts the readers to study and analyse history. Muhammad Abu Obaid’s dialogue with the children and youth participating in the workshop, focused on the unique vision of a young man who went on to lead the Emirate of Sharjah and the national principles on which he was brought up, to be a constructive message for future generations.”
Al-Juwaid emphasised: "Reading of history is essential in building strong societies. Losing historical memory is likelosing personal memory. Historical memory helps us understand the past, interpret the present, and predict the future and its challenges."
