AWARD RECOGNISES EXCELLENCE OF ITHMAAR INITIATIVE AND ITS ROLE IN BUILDING A NEW MEDIA GENERATION

The Sharjah Press Club of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau has won the Kuwait Award for Creativity during its 10th session held in Kuwait for the Ithmaar annual media training initiative, which targets students aged between 10 and 17 to promote media awareness in the younger generation and introduce them to the concepts of journalistic work and the media at a young age.

The Kuwait Award for Creativity, which is co-hosted by the Arab Media Forum Authority, the Kuwait Society for Media and Communication and a number of other stakeholders, comes as a huge honour and recognition for the Sharjah Press Club and the Sharjah Government Media Bureau and the key role the Ithmaar media training program has been playing in grooming a media generation. The Ithmaar program uses an interactive approach that mixes media training and knowledge with pleasure and positive engagement. The Kuwait award appreciates the excellence of the Ithmaar initiative and its positive impact on the new generation.

The Ithmaar program was launched in 2019, in line with the approach of the Emirate of Sharjah emanating from the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the highest importance he attaches to grooming and training children and youth in various fields and sectors.

The Kuwait Award for Creativity, which received as many as 1081 nominations from various Arab countries for the 10th edition, lauded the SPC’s vision and policy of promoting and spreading media culture among young people, developing their media talents and motivating them to join journalistic profession, in a way that helps in building national talents capable of leading the media industry in the future according to the vision and policies of the UAE.

The annual Ithmaar program seeks to train and qualify its young participants in the media sector and content industry and enhance their knowledge in a scientific way that combines the theoretical and practical aspects. This includes field visits to various media institutions that give them the opportunity to get firsthand knowledge and awareness about the daily functioning of the industry.

Over the course of its past four sessions, the program has received 240 applications and 89 students have successfully trained and graduated.

By hosting top trainers and media experts with rich experience and competencies, the Ithmaar seeks to deliver information in a simple and effective way that benefits the participants. Participants also enjoy and benefit from the exceptional membership of the Club, in addition to receiving training certificates.

The SPC works to serve the press and media community by organising a number of targeted specialised events and programmes throughout the year while ensuring constructive cooperation with the leading authorities in the sector.
