SHARJAH RAMADAN MAJLIS’ SECOND SESSION DISCUSSES FACETS OF FAME IN SOCIAL MEDIA COMMUNICATION PLATFORMS AND ITS DEEP IMPACT ON SOCIETY

The session was attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Council; HE Tariq Saeed Allay, Director of Sharjah Government Media Bureau along with a number of invitees.

Speaking on the session, Sami Al Riyami, Editor-in-Chief of Emarat Al Youm newspaper and Talal Al-Buhairi, Social Media Activist, shared their view and exchanged expertise in social communication platforms field. The session was moderated by Muhammad Al Kaabi.

Sami Al Riyami underscored the deep impact of social media platforms on society as individuals spend approximately three hours and 50 minutes time per day on these platforms, highlighting the necessary need to think seriously about its negative and positive sides. 

Sami Al Riyami affirmed the importance of raising awareness among society against the negative content which was published by some celebrities in the social communication platforms, appreciating the unlimited efforts exerted by concerned entities in United Arab Emirates to preserve societal values through launching several meaningful initiatives.

For his part, Talal Al-Buhairi, shined light on worrying impact of the negative content on the society published by some social media platforms’ celebrities, which contribute to forming a negative stereotype for their countries. He pointed out to some negative behaviors conducted by some celebrities by disseminating their private life and western ideas via social media platform in order to raise their number of views and follow-ups.

Al-Buhairi stressed the role of society in confronting negative content in social media platforms, noting the importance of setting control regulations to preserve values ​​and instill the culture of freedom and responsibility in a proper manner.
